Chapter 15
Money
Diva’s Lounge, December 1997
GG and I got dressed in her house in Bayside. We jumped in her Jeep, headed to carry out our planned hit on Pete.
We wanted to bring a new chick into the Cartel. Misty was real cool. A little older than us and in college and the whole nine, she was definitely smart and had what it took to help us do this drug shit.
I was dressed like a diva, to disguise for the hit. We had simply told Pete that we’d all be going out to a club in Manhattan called Diva’s Lounge, to party and take our minds off everything that had been going on recently.
As GG drove, I sat in the passenger’s seat with a .45-caliber handgun in my Louis Vuitton handbag.
“You ready to do this?” GG asked.
I didn’t even look at her. I just nodded my head up and down a few times.
“Remember, when Misty gets in the car, just play everything cool.”
I didn’t respond because I already knew all of what GG was telling me.
We reached Misty’s block and let the Jeep sit idle in front of her crib, while GG called her on the truck’s cell phone, letting her know we were there.
Misty hopped in the back seat. “What’s up?” She reached forward and kissed me on the cheek. “GG, what up, fam?” She squeezed GG on the shoulder.
GG adjusted the radio station, and just at that moment, DJ Funkmaster Flex’s voice came on, promoting a party he was deejaying at that night at a Manhattan club.
I turned and told Misty, “Yo, that’s where we’re going.”
Misty just quietly nodded her head to the music that followed Flex’s promotional message.
It was quiet for a moment, and then Misty asked, “GG, you got a burner?”
I was wondering why she had asked that question.
“Yeah, it’s inside the door paneling. Why?”
“I ain’t bring no heat, so just in case something jumps off at the club I wanna know what’s what.”
Misty’s question about me having a burner had thrown me off, but I guess that she knew about what happened, so she probably wanted to make sure that we were prepared for anything. It was good to know that Misty was not strapped ’cause it eliminated the chances of her reacting the wrong way to the hit that was about to go down.
Misty didn’t live too far from Pete, so before I knew it, we were rolling up to his crib.
GG spoke into her cell phone. “Yo, Pete, we outside.”
After about five minutes Pete appeared. My heart had been racing and thumping from the moments after Misty had got in the car, and when I saw Pete, my heart rate really picked up. I calmly blew out a little bit of air from my lungs. Pete was just about at the car. I couldn’t front on the hit. Even though I had gone over the plot again and again in my head, I had never been able to predict, and prepare for, how nervous I would be.
